Why Did Becky Lynch Cry Backstage At WWE SummerSlam

Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch’s emotional night at WWE SummerSlam 2025 was packed with high drama and personal milestones.

Lynch entered MetLife Stadium to defend her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against her longtime rival Lyra Valkyria in a No Disqualification, No Count-Out, Last Chance Match. The stakes were huge; if Valkyria lost, she would be barred from challenging for the title again as long as The Man held it.

The match escalated quickly into physical chaos, with Big Time Becks locking Valkyria to the ring post with zip ties and fighting with kendo sticks and chains. In the end, Bayley’s accidental interference tipped the scales, allowing Lynch to secure victory and retain her gold, closing the chapter on their fierce rivalry.

The event held even deeper meaning for Becky Lynch because her husband, Seth Rollins, stunned the WWE universe with an epic swerve. Rollins had faked a knee injury for weeks, making his sudden return and Money in the Bank cash-in a genuine shock.

After CM Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship win, Rollins rushed to the ring and blindsided his arch-nemesis to seize title once again, thereby pulling off the ruse of the century. But what truly left Becky Lynch crying backstage wasn’t just her or her husband’s victory. It was something else.

Becky Lynch’s New Theme Song Made Her Cry

Becky Lynch debuted her new entrance theme song, “The Wonder Years,” written by her close friend Dan “Soupy” Campbell. She had personally sought out Campbell to write a heartfelt song which he packed with references to her personal life: a wink to her daughter Roux, a nod to her husband, and a chorus honoring her late father, who passed away four years ago.

Speaking in an interview with Metro UK, Campbell revealed the reigning Women’s Intecontinental Champion approached him in tears backstage after the match.

“The lyrics aren’t anywhere yet, but I worked in a reference to Roux [her and Seth Rollins’ daughter] in the first verse, where there’s like a wink to Roux’s name. And then I worked in a reference to Seth in the second verse, and then the chorus references her dad [who passed away four years ago],” he said.

“We went backstage, and she came up to me crying, and was just like, ‘It just meant so much, because the last time my dad saw me wrestle live was here at SummerSlam.’ That’s what I was looking for. I wanted to make something that was really important to her,” he added. [H/T: Metro]
