Baron Corbin Played Crucial Role In Helping Young WWE Star

A rising WWE star who worked with Baron Corbin in NXT and on the main roster is reflecting on their time working together.

Baron Corbin’s WWE run ended after 12 years when the company decided not to give him a new contract.

As a WWE superstar, Corbin’s career had plenty of ups and downs. During his first NXT run, he was known for winning matches quickly. Once he joined the main roster in 2016, he won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal to show that he belonged.

That main roster run saw also Corbin win the United States Title and he also captured the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2017. Corbin also won the 2019 King of the Ring tournament and was the man who retired the legendary WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle as well.

During his second NXT run, Corbin became a NXT Tag Team Champion with Bron Breakker earlier in 2024 before both men were put on the main roster. After going back to the main roster, Corbin was only used sparingly while teaming with Apollo Crews.

Carmelo Hayes Learned A Lot From Baron Corbin

While Corbin was in NXT for that second run, one of the wrestlers he faced was the former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes. They also wrestled on Smackdown when Hayes got the main roster call up as well.

Carmelo Hayes spoke to Alistair McGeorge of Metro and spoke about how Corbin was almost a mentor to him in the ring and outside of it as well.

“Listen, Baron was one of the people that actually took a liking to me, and took me under his wing. He did so much for me, he helped me so much, he gave me so much advice. Not just wrestling, life advice, money advice, so many things.”

“I’m forever indebted to Baron Corbin – super talented, and I hate to see him go. That was one of those ones that really kinda hurt, seeing that, because believe it or not, me and Baron were pretty close, pretty tight. Everybody loved Baron.”

The timing of Baron Corbin’s release was strange for some people because he was shooting content for WWE and Netflix just a few days before the company let him know they were going to move on without him.
