Backstage Reaction To Shock John Cena Heel Turn

John Cena at WWE Elimination Chamber

The world is still talking about John Cena.

For years, a John Cena heel-turn seemed impossible, and the prospect of such a twist during his retirement tour was downright unthinkable. However, at Elimination Chamber, the WWE legend shocked the world. And not just the wrestling world, either.

After Cena won the main event and earned himself a shot at Cody Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion made his way to the ring. The duo was then joined by The Rock and Travis Scott before Rhodes rejected Rock’s proposal to join forces.

In a shocking turn of events, and at The Rock’s instruction, Cena hit Rhodes with a low blow, cementing his first heel turn in more than two decades.

John Cena Sparks WWE Excitement

As noted by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp in response to a fan during a recent Q&A, there was a “pleasant shock” backstage at the stunning Elimination Chamber switch. Although people on the roster thought Cena could turn heel, they didn’t think it would actually happen.

Sapp added that there was a “lot of excitement” because they knew it would bring lots more eyes to the product.

Cena is expected to return to WWE television on the March 17 edition of Raw in Brussels, Belgium. He’s also advertised to appear on March 24 and 31 in Glasgow and London, respectively.
