Backstage Insight Into Brock Lesnar’s WWE Return
More insight from backstage has now been revealed regarding Brock Lesnar’s shock return to WWE.
Brock Lesnar made his shock return to WWE at SummerSlam, where he attacked John Cena moments after Cena had lost his WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes.
The last time fans had seen Lesnar in the company was back at SummerSlam in 2023, where he lost to Rhodes. A return in 2024 was called off after Brock Lesnar was implicated in the sexual abuse lawsuit filed against former WWE owner Vince McMahon.
But what were the practicalities of bringing such a big name in and, more importantly, keeping it a secret?
Brock Lesnar Hidden During SummerSlam
Fightful Select has offered more insight into the backstage machinations of Brock Lesnar’s return. It was noted that on Saturday, it became clear that news surrounding the John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes match was being kept very quiet, even from WWE staff, producers, writers, and production crew. Many of them still hadn’t heard about Brock Lesnar by Sunday evening and instead presumed The Rock was making a return.
It was noted that the belief is that Lesnar was flown to Minnesota and then to Teterboro private airport on Saturday, and that he was hidden throughout the day of SummerSlam itself. Lesnar was then believed to be backstage by around 9:15 PM ET during the Rhodes vs. Cena match.
Backstage WWE sources noted that they knew something big was planned based on what wasn’t said rather than what they were actually told. There has been no confirmation if Lesnar’s return is permanent or is just to work a program with Cena before the 17-time world champion retires in December.
