Backstage Details On Forbidden Door Bout That Received A Standing Ovation
Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay went to war at Forbidden Door, and a new report reveals the reception to their blockbuster bout.
Forbidden Door saw a highly-anticipated singles rematch between Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega as they battled for the IWGP United States Championship.
The bout lasted over forty minutes, with both men busted open in the process as they threw everything they had at one another. At one point, Omega’s former ally Don Callis handed a screwdriver to Ospreay, who drove the weapon into his opponent’s head.
At Callis’ behest, Ospreay nailed Omega with a Kamigoye, a move NJPW fans will recognize as the finisher of Omega’s former tag team partner Kota Ibushi. Ospreay then followed that up with a One-Winged Angel as he sought to end Omega with his own move. To the shock of everyone, Omega powered out after just a count of one.
However, in the end, Ospreay proved to be too much for Omega this time around, hitting a Storm Breaker on him to win the match and with it the IWGP United States Championship. After the bout, both men took to social media to show respect for each other despite being at odds for years.

According to an update from Fightful Select, the bout between the two men is being hailed as an instant classic. The report notes that many backstage voiced concern over some spots in the match that were considered “risky,” but thankfully, neither man was injured in the bout. In fact, according to Fightful, Kenny Omega told multiple people that he was “fine” once the match was over.
Ospreay and Omega reportedly received a standing ovation when they made their way backstage after the match, and the bout was said to be “heavily praised” by fellow AEW stars.
Fightful Select also notes that this match was as meticulously planned out as their Wrestle Kingdom 17 bout back in January. Ospreay reportedly told Fightful in the past that he wanted their second bout to be different from the first as Omega took about 80% of the offense in their Wrestle Kingdom outing.
