Babyface WWE Star Wants To Be A Heel

Wrestling Legend Raves About WWE Superstar's

Former WWE Champion The Miz has declared his preference for working as a heel.

The 43 year-old former Tough Enough contestant is currently operating as a babyface in the tag team ‘Awesome Truth’ alongside long-time fan favourite R-Truth.

The duo first came together as a team back in 2011 and were involved in a number of major storylines, including facing the imposing team of John Cena and The Rock in the main event of Survivor Series, emanating from New York’s Madison Square Garden on 20th November 2011.

The pair reunited on the Day 1 episode of Raw at the beginning of 2024 and went on to lift the Raw Tag Team Championship in the six-pack ladder match on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. Awesome Truth retained the titles, which were later renamed as the World Tag Team Championship, for 79 days before falling to defeat at the hands of Finn Balor and JD McDonagh on the 24th June edition of Raw.

The Miz discussed his current run as a crowd favourite in a recent appearance on WrestleRant Radio and admitted he was more comfortable playing a villain:

“No, I’m not used to it at all. People are like, what would you rather be? It’s like, I love being hated.

A lot of people, some bad guys don’t like to be hated. They’ll go on X or Instagram and look at the comments to see if they’re like, ‘oh, I don’t like him, but man, is he cool’. Or I don’t like him, but man, he’s got cool moves. I don’t like that.

I want people to despise me and can’t stand me. That’s me doing my job to the best of my ability.”

WWE Superstar The Miz Heaps Praise On ‘Underrated’ R-Truth

Despite holding a strong desire to work as a heel, The Miz confirmed that he continues to enjoy working alongside tag team partner R-Truth and took time to heap praise upon the 52 year-old veteran for his comic talent:

“Now after, I don’t know what, 18 years of being a bad guy, all of a sudden you attach yourself to R-Truth and you’re going to be beloved because there is no one more beloved in WWE than R-Truth. People always say like, I’m underrated. I don’t think people realize how underrated R-Truth is as a talent.

He’s been here longer than everybody else and has been able to evolve and make amazing content. Like he’s taken seriously, but he also can be funny. That’s very difficult to do. Very difficult. Funny is usually you’re not taken seriously. You’re just a goof. Truth is able to find that fine line and I’m loving being along with the rides with him.”
