Why Ava Didn’t Want The Rock’s Help To Get Into WWE
Ava, daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, signed with WWE in February 2020 when she was just 16.
She debuted on NXT as part of the faction Schism in October 2022. She made her in-ring debut under the ring name Ava Raine on February 14, 2023, and wrestled her first match on April 1, 2023, at NXT Stand & Deliver.
Following the Schism storyline, Ava assumed the role of on-screen assistant, supporting Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels. Currently, she holds the important on-screen role of General Manager of NXT, making her the youngest ever to hold that position in WWE. She is also involved in managing the newly revived Evolve brand.
The Rock’s Daughter Ava Wanted To Forge Her Own Path in WWE
During an appearance on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, The Rock discussed Ava’s journey getting into WWE and beyond. He expressed immense pride in his daughter for forging her own path in WWE without relying on his influence.
He highlighted that Ava never asked him for favors or special treatment to get into WWE; she wanted to carve her own legacy independently, a stance he deeply respects.
She became the youngest WWE signee at 16,” he revealed during the conversation. “She was going to NYU, and she gave me and her mom a call and said, ‘I want to pivot. I want to go directly into WWE NXT and start training in Orlando.’ She told me, ‘I want to blaze my own path. I want to call myself Ava Raine—not The Rock-something or anything like that.’
She told me, ‘I want to blaze my own path. I want to call myself Ava Raine—not The Rock-something or anything like that.’ She’s been doing a great job, and I keep tabs on her. Her being in the wrestling business has actually brought us closer together.
