Austin Theory Was Told “Be Prepared” Prior To John Cena Segment On WWE Raw
Austin Theory recalled some advice he was given prior to his promo showdown with John Cena to set up their WrestleMania 39 match.
On the March 6th edition of WWE Monday Night Raw in Boston, John Cena was back for a promo that was immediately interrupted by the United States Champion Austin Theory.
The promo exchange eventually led to Cena agreeing to face Theory at WrestleMania 39 while also telling Theory that he wasn’t ready for Cena. What was also memorable about the promo exchange is that Cena dominated much of it with some people even thinking that Cena “buried” Theory because of some of the things that Cena said.
Due to Cena’s busy schedule filming a movie, it was the only time Cena appeared on Raw before their WrestleMania 39 match that opened WrestleMania Saturday.
During an interview on the Out of Character podcast, Austin Theory said two veteran wrestlers told him to be prepared going into the Cena match.
“Yeah, you know, Miz, Baron Corbin, sounds like all the bad guys (are who told me to be ready for my in-ring segment with John Cena). They’re just like, ‘Man, just be ready. You’re gonna get thrown out there in some deep water. Just be prepared’ but, you know, I had my cool sneakers on and my shades that he talked trash about and I was feeling good.”
“I was like, I came out here with one thing in mind and I got it. So, you know, telling me people don’t believe in me, alright John. I’m gonna make you believe. I’m gonna make them all stop believing in you.”
As for their WrestleMania 39 match, Austin Theory beat John Cena to keep the US Title as most people would expect in a match with a part-time wrestler like Cena facing a full-time star that’s 20 years younger.
