Aubrey Edwards Names Favourite AEW Match She’s Refereed
Aubrey Edwards has named the top AEW bout she has refereed.
The popular official has been in charge of some of the biggest matches in AEW history since penning a full time deal with the company in September 2019.
The agreement came just days after Edwards had made wrestling history by becoming the first female to referee a men’s World Championship match on pay-per-view at the inaugural AEW All Out event.
Speaking during a recent appearance on ‘Casual Conversations With The Classic‘, the 37 year-old referee was tasked to name her favourite contest ever officiated and opted to name a classic bout at WrestleDream 2023:
“I think the one that stands out the most in my mind is WrestleDream last year with Bryan Danielson versus Zack Sabre Jr.”
Edwards would go on to reveal that she lobbied management to receive the assignment and detailed her reasons for wanting to officiate the huge bout in Seattle, Washington on 1st October 2023.
“I remember when it got announced, I saw the graphic backstage, and I immediately text Paul Turner, who’s our senior official and does all the assignments. I go, ‘Paul, I know I don’t ask for anything often, but this was literally my dream match before I ever stepped into the ring, so can I please do this?’ He said, ‘Sure, yeah, no problem.’
Bryan Danielson’s one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest of all time. Zack Sabre Jr. is one of the best technical wrestlers of all time, and seeing those two guys step in the ring, and being a part of it, I love technical wrestling.
Being a part of that was both meaningful for me as a referee as it was a true masterclass of, this is a number of skillsets that we have to teach referees as they’re coming up in the indies, but also just as a fan, I’m sitting there like, ‘How freaking cool is this?’”
AEW Encouraged To Sign Top Free Agent
Aubrey Edwards could soon be officiating a bout including ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey if a legendary former AEW star had his way.
Bailey is a free agent after departing TNA following the expiration of his contract on 1st November, with Matt Hardy believing that AEW would be the ideal new destination for the 34 year-old star.
