Asuka Defending WWE Women’s Title On July 14th Smackdown
Asuka will have her hands full on the July 14th edition of Smackdown when she defends her WWE Women’s Title against a familiar foe.
Bianca Belair has wanted a rematch against Asuka for over one month and she’s finally going to get it.
At WWE Night of Champions on May 27th, Asuka ended Bianca Belair’s 419-day reign as the Raw Women’s Champion. It was a cheap win by Asuka as she put some infamous mist coloring on her hand, which she raked across the eyes of Balor during the match (the referee didn’t see it) and Asuka hit Belair with a couple of kicks to become the new champion.
Since then, WWE retired the Raw Women’s Title and presented Asuka with the brand new WWE Women’s Title, which has a gold color to it. Ever since that loss, Belair has wanted a title rematch, but Charlotte Flair stepped to the front of the line to get a title shot first.
During the Asuka-Flair Women’s Title match on the June 30th Smackdown, Belair was sitting at ringside and Asuka pulled Belair in front of her so Flair kicked Belair by accident. Belair went after Asuka leading to a disqualification in the match. Flair didn’t like that, but Belair ended up on top with KOD slams for Asuka & Flair on the commentary table.
On last night’s Smackdown from Madison Square Garden, Asuka was attacked by Belair in the ring and then Flair joined in. IYO SKY, who is Miss Money in the Bank after her big win last weekend, and Bayley also joined the fight. It looked like Sky might cash in Money in the Bank on Asuka, but Flair knocked down Sky with a boot and Asuka escaped with her title.
Later that same night, WWE announced that Belair will finally get her rematch against Asuka next week on the July 14th edition of Smackdown.
