Arnold Schwarzenegger Once Angered Andre The Giant By Paying For Dinner

Hollywood legend and former politician Arnold Schwarzenegger once found himself in trouble with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Andre the Giant after making the mistake of paying for dinner, a gesture Andre took as an insult.

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show in 2023, Schwarzenegger reflected on his time working with Andre and basketball icon Wilt Chamberlain while filming Conan the Destroyer (1984). The trio became close friends during their time in Mexico City, often joking about their size differences.

“Andre the Giant, who was a very good friend of mine, and Wilt Chamberlain both went out for dinner several times in Mexico City,” Schwarzenegger said. “They were both always joking about who could pick me up and make me look like a little fly.”

After securing his first million-dollar movie deal, Schwarzenegger decided to treat his friends to dinner. However, Andre, known for his generosity, did not take kindly to the gesture.

“I said, ‘I’m gonna take the boys out.’ Andre was the most generous, Wilt Chamberlain was cheap, right? He was always penny-pinching, but Andre always wanted to pay for the dinner. So, this one day, I said, ‘I’ll be right back,’ and I snuck out to give the waiter my credit card.”

But when the bill arrived, Andre was furious.

“All of a sudden, [Andre says] ‘No! You make me very angry, Arnold.’ He picked me up and then, of course, Wilt joined in, ‘Oh yeah, I wanted to pay.’”

The two giants then carried Schwarzenegger outside and placed him on the roof of his car.

“People are freaking out,” Schwarzenegger recalled. “It was a very funny scene.”

How Did Andre The Giant Used To Rib Jake Roberts?

Jake Roberts recalled how Andre the Giant used to rib him during their matches together. Roberts said that Andre was keen on playing practical jokes inside and outside of the ring, and one such joke saw the massive Andre sit on Jake’s chest so that he could move and would then pass gas onto him, much to the dismay of Roberts.
