Another WWE Documentary Is In The Works
A former WWE announcer has claimed work on a new documentary is on the way.
On September 25th, the long-awaited Netflix documentary on Vince McMahon finally premiered. While the six-part docuseries didn’t provide too much new information for long-time fans, the scandals and revelations discussed certainly got people talking.
Ahead of the premiere, Jim Ross confirmed he wouldn’t be part of the documentary, although he was surprised he wasn’t approached given his tenure with WWE. By contrast, Jonathan Coachman has revealed he was asked to be involved but chose not to be.
Speaking on the Behind The Turnbuckle Podcast, Coachman said he turned down the chance to appear in “Mr. McMahon” as he felt it would be a “hit piece.”
“People need to understand, I got called for this doc, and at the time, I was not prepared to go into a doc that I felt was going to be a hit piece. In hindsight, would I have liked to have been in it? I mean, it doesn’t matter to me one way or the other.”
New WWE Documentary On The Way
Coachman went on to say that he’s since been approached by a different production company on a “major network” about a different documentary. The former announcer also discussed his once-close relationship with McMahon.
“Full transparency, another production company on a major network reached out to me yesterday and they’re doing another documentary on the WWE. I don’t know what the network is.
They’re actually calling me today after we get done with this show about me being in that one because a lot of people don’t realize how close I was to Vince for many years. I was his assistant. I was on his plane. I did all the press conferences.
This production company, somehow they found out because this lady knew exactly what I had done with Vince when she emailed me yesterday.”
Coachman worked as a backstage interviewer and commentator in WWE from 1999 to 2008 before returning to the company in 2018. After a short spell on commentary on Raw, Coachman continued to appear for the company before leaving again in 2021.
