Another WWE Commentary Overhaul On Its Way
After a huge announcement at WWE SummerSlam, it seems the company’s commentary shake-up is not as major as first thought.
During the WWE SummerSlam pre-show, it was announced that Tessitore will start with WWE on the September 2nd episode of Raw from Denver, Colorado. This means that Michael Cole will head back to SmackDown when the blue brand returns to the USA Network.
While many believed that this meant Tessitore would be the voice of the red brand when Raw makes its historic move to Netflix in January 2025, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that the brand switch for Michael Cole is a temporary one. Cole is said to be heading back to Raw in January for the switch to Netflix while Joe Tessitore will then move to SmackDown on the USA Network.
More Commentary Uncertainty In WWE
Meanwhile, it was revealed on August 2nd that Michael Cole has signed a new WWE deal to keep him with the company for the “foreseeable future.” Cole joined the sports entertainment giant back in 1997 as a backstage interviewer before moving to the announce desk.
Interestingly, Pat McAfee’s future appears much more uncertain after he announced he’s rejoining ESPN’s College GameDay. During McAfee’s last stint on the show in September 2022 he took a break from commentary, not returning on a regular basis until January 2024.
