Another Top AEW Star Taking Time Off

AEW Tony Khan

Another champion will reportedly be taking time off from AEW.

It’s been reported that Wardlow will be out for several months, just weeks after returning to AEW after a lengthy absence. It’s believed that the star has suffered a torn pec, which could keep him on the sidelines until well into 2026.

To make matters worse for the company, it had already been confirmed that Will Ospreay will be out for a lengthy period as he undergoes neck surgery. Swerve Strickland is also recovering after knee surgery, while Kenny Omega has taken time off.

Jay White remains on the injury list after he elected to get treatment for a shoulder injury, after already taking time off to repair a hand injury. Again, White isn’t expected to wrestle again in 2025.

Athena Steps Away From AEW

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will be missing for the next five to six weeks. There’s no word on whether the star has a specific injury, is “banged up,” or is simply taking a pre-planned break.

The star has been the centre piece of ROH since winning the title well over two and a half years ago, while making regular appearances in AEW through the summer.

Interestingly, the news comes after Tony Khan said he’d be open to creating a women’s Continental Classic if injuries allow.

However, there has been some good news on the injury front after Eddie Kingston confirmed that he’s on the verge of finally making his comeback. The former Ring of Honor World Champion answered the challenge from Big Bill, promising to fight him whenever and wherever he wants.

Kingston hasn’t wrestled since suffering a series of major leg injuries in May 2024.
