Andrade’s WWE Non-Compete Could Be More Restrictive Than Previously Thought
More details have been revealed about Andrade’s current status.
On October 1, Andrade El Idolo made a shock return to AEW just weeks after it was reported he’d been fired by WWE. According to that report, the former NXT Champion was let go after several breaches of the company’s wellness policy.
However, it was quickly reported that new WWE/TKO contracts come with a one-year non-compete clause if the talent involved is fired. If enforced, this clause could keep Andrade out of the ring until September 2026.
As a result, the star has disappeared from television, and it’s believed he’s unable to wrestle in the United States. But a new report has suggested that his non-compete clause could be even more restrictive than previously thought.
Andrade’s Options Are Limited
It had been claimed that Andrade walked out of an event in Mexico, but it seems that wasn’t quite the case. The star appeared at a meet and greet as advertised, but then left as he wasn’t booked to wrestle.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer suggested that this is because his non-compete forbids him from competing anywhere in the world.
“Andrade was announced for the show. He did the meet and greet but wasn’t on the show itself. There was a report that he left unhappy after the meet and greet but also claims he wasn’t wrestling on the show so there was no reason to stay for the show.
There are those now claiming that his non-compete is worldwide and not just for the United States, which does make sense given he’s wrestled nowhere outside the U.S. either. There is also no way that would hold up in court if he tried to challenge it.”
Although it appears he hasn’t begun any such action, it’s been suggested that Andrade would likely get the non-compete overturned should he launch a legal challenge.
