Andrade Breaks Silence On His Current Situation With WWE & AEW

Andrade El Idolo

Andrade left WWE officially on September 13, 2025.

The 35-year-old star wasn’t fired because of budget cuts or wrestling performance, but was suspended without pay and then told to leave a SmackDown taping in mid-August after repeated wellness policy violations.

Reports say WWE management made the decision, and he didn’t ask to go. He wanted more TV time, but his exit was about discipline, not creative burnout. His last in-ring WWE appearance was teaming with Rey Fenix at SummerSlam in a TLC tag match on August 3, 2025. After that, he was out of action for weeks before the split became official.

WWE Has Legally Stopped Andrade From Working In AEW Or Other Promotions

Andrade shocked fans with a sudden return to AEW at the October 1 Dynamite anniversary show, where he attacked Kenny Omega and joined the Don Callis Family. The plan was for him to kick off a massive heel run and work matches immediately, and he even wrestled in Mexico just two days later at The Crash Lucha Libre, winning their Heavyweight title.

But WWE quickly intervened with a cease-and-desist order, arguing Andrade was still under a one-year non-compete clause tied to his recent firing “for cause.” As a result, AEW pulled him from TV and canceled all matches, including planned main event runs with Omega and bookings in Atlanta and Puerto Rico.

On Instagram, Andrade received a question about how he is dealing with the highly chaotic contract situation he is currently in.

“How do you feel in your current situation?”

His response was:

“I have health! And that’s the most important thing.” [H/T Fightful]

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported rumors from Lucha circles that WWE might use Andrade’s rumored one-year non-compete clause to negotiate his return. While unconfirmed by WWE, this speculation circulating in Mexico suggests the company could be strategically leveraging contract terms to bring Andrade back into the promotion.
