AJ Styles Wants Special Match Before Retirement

AJ Styles has his eye on something special.

At Slammiversary 2025, AJ Styles made a stunning return to TNA on what was one of the company’s biggest nights in recent memory.

On the show, Styles came to the ring after Leon Slater defeated Moose to claim the X-Division Championship. The veteran heaped praise on the young star and reflected fondly on his own time in TNA.

The appearance was Styles’ first for the company since he allowed his contract to expire in late 2013.

AJ Styles Isn’t Done With TNA

In a new documentary taking a look behind the scenes at Slammiversary, Styles heaped praise on the company and admitted that if things had been different, he’d have never left. He added that he’d like to wrestle for the company again, but isn’t making any promises.

“It’s like the first girl you’ve ever loved, right? She’s always gonna be special to you. This was my first love. I would have been here forever, had things not went the way that it did… I hope there’s something special as far as a match goes, but I can’t promise that…

That was the first time in a long time I’ve seen the whole company watching the same match because they were so interested in what’s going to happen. They’re pulling for each other; you want that. You don’t have to worry about people stabbing each other in the back to get to the top… That’s how you become a successful company.”

AJ Styles will be back in action at SummerSlam, where he’ll challenge Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship. Styles had been due to face Mysterio at Night of Champions, but the match was scrapped after Mysterio suffered an injury.

Although he recently signed a one-year contract extension, Styles has admitted on several occasions that he’s planning to retire soon. The star is expected to end his in-ring career with WWE.
