AJ Styles Gave The Undertaker A Special Retirement Gift
AJ Styles has revealed details behind a special retirement gift he presented to The Undertaker following their WrestleMania 36 match.
The legendary WWE Hall Of Famer brought the curtain down on an incredible 30-year career following the bout on 4th April 2020, hanging up his boots after victory over Styles in the critically acclaimed cinematic-style ‘Boneyard Match’.
The global COVID-19 pandemic had put paid to original plans for ‘the showcase of the immortals’ to take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida with the event switched to the behind closed doors setting of the WWE Performance Center.
The pair would headline Night One of the event, opting against a bout inside the empty arena and instead competed in a cinematic-style 24-minute showdown that proved a fitting conclusion to the career of one of wrestling’s all time-greats.
During a pre-WrestleMania 40 chat with Inside The Ropes’ Kenny McIntosh, Styles lifted the lid on a heart-warming exchange of gifts between the pair following their classic encounter:
“He didn’t really have to say anything, because we both knew, as we were doing it like, oh, okay, we got chemistry here, you know.
And at the end, I signed my gloves that I wore in the boneyard match, and I gave them to him. And then a couple of weeks later, he signed his and sent them to me. So I have his gloves from his last match that we had in the Boneyard. It’s pretty awesome.”
AJ Styles Set For Huge Bout At WrestleMania 40
AJ Styles has won just four of his seven WrestleMania bouts since his first outing against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 32 and will be looking to add to his win tally when he takes on LA Knight on Night Two of WrestleMania 40 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial FIeld.
The experienced pair have been embroiled in a heated feud in recent weeks that even spilled out into a huge brawl during WrestleMania XL press day.
Despite being a featured bout on the Night Two card, LA Knight recently revealed his frustration at battling Styles at the Premium Live Event, insisting instead that he should be part of the World Championship picture.
