AJ Lee’s WWE Return Confirmed After 10-Year Absence; Plans Revealed
AJ Lee will be back.
At Clash In Paris, Becky Lynch joined forces with Seth Rollins and The Vision after hitting CM Punk with a thunderous low blow. This allowed Rollins to earn the win in a chaotic Fatal-Four-Way Match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
Lynch’s involvement in the rivalry between Rollins and Punk immediately sparked speculation that AJ Lee could make a long-awaited return to WWE to team with the latter.
On the following episode of Raw, Lynch and WWE acknowledged the crowd’s chants for Lee during a segment involving her husband, Punk. This only added fuel to the fire regarding a return, and it seems that fans will finally get their wish.
New Report Confirms AJ Lee’s WWE Return
As reported on Wrestling Observer Live by Bryan Alvarez, AJ Lee will team with CM Punk at Wrestlepalooza to face Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. It had previously been reported that Brock Lesnar would also return to the ring at the event against John Cena.
“We can confirm that it is a mixed tag – it’s CM Punk and AJ Lee against Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, and it will be on Wrestlepalooza.”
A further note from Sean Ross Sapp said that it’s a “forgone conclusion” that Lee’s return will be confirmed, or she will be at SmackDown on September 5.
Wrestlepalooza will kick off WWE’s new relationship with ESPN, while also going head-to-head with AEW All Out.
AJ Lee hasn’t wrestled since teaming with Naomi and Paige to beat The Bella Twins and Natalya on the March 30, 2015 of Monday Night Raw. She later confirmed that she’d retired from in-ring competition due to injury concerns.
Lee also admitted that she felt “caught in the middle” following Punk’s acrimonious departure from the company a year earlier.
