AJ Lee Faces Shocking Accusation Following WWE Return
AJ Lee made a triumphant return to WWE.
The Black Widow left the Stamford-based company and retired from professional wrestling in 2015. Over the next decade, she insisted she was not interested in making a comeback, even after her husband, CM Punk, returned to WWE.
However, Lee recently changed her mind as she came to her husband’s aid in his feud with the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and his wife, the Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch.
Last Saturday, the three-time Divas Champion teamed up with The Second City Saint to defeat The Visionary and The Man at Wrestlepalooza. The match marked Lee’s first in over a decade.
How Big Is AJ Lee’s Star Power In WWE?
WWE fans massively welcomed AJ Lee’s comeback. The Black Widow’s appearances on SmackDown, Monday Night RAW, and Wrestlepalooza were met with huge reactions from the crowd.
Nevertheless, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio recently accused the former Divas Champion of losing her star power. He predicted that Lee would not stand out among the current women’s roster and would not be a big draw.
AJ Lee’s business was gonna be front‑loaded. It was going to be really big for the first one. I never thought it would sustain. She may be a popular woman wrestler based on different things, but it’s going to be tough. She’s older. The entire division has evolved incredibly in 10 years. She could stand out a decade ago… but with how evolved the division is now, it’s tough. Becky helped carry her, but long‑term, I don’t see her being a big draw.
Becky Lynch really helped her through that a lot — and I thought almost enough. But there were certain points where it was just kind of like… you know, she’s got Becky Lynch there, but long‑term? Very often, when you leave something and come back, and go back to doing what you did before — you don’t realize that the business is different.
My brother watched nothing for years… then he came back and was just like, ‘Oh my God, this wrestling is like a thousand times better than when we were kids! [H/T: Ringside News]
