Why AJ Lee Ended Relationship With CM Punk For A Year

AJ Lee and CM Punk are one of the it couples in WWE. The two began dating in 2013 and were married in 2014.

Before they began dating, they were together in a romantic storyline in 2012. During that time, they were only friends.

During an interview on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon, Lee recounted an incident from back in the day when they were just friends. She recalled sharing a meal with Punk in a restaurant where Punk casually mentioned to her that he wasn’t interested in getting settled.

But a small voice in Lee’s head said that she’s going to be Punk’s wife. The idea popped into her head out of the blue, and it caused so much shame that she didn’t speak to Punk for a year.

“I remember when we were just friends, we were talking at a restaurant one time, and he was saying something like he knows he’s never going to get married, and a weird voice in my head went, ‘You’re going to marry me’. I was like, ‘B**ch shut up, who was that?’ And then I didn’t talk to him for, like, a year. I was freaked out by that,” Lee said.

How AJ Lee And CM Punk Ended Up Together?

While speaking to McMahon, AJ Lee also revealed that sharing a storyline with Punk in WWE was a very big reason they eventually got close. Spending so much time working together ultimately led them to fall in love.

It is probably two years after our storyline, but our first kiss is on television, and then I put him through a table. As one does. Wrestling relationships. Yeah, I think early on, I think he respected me to the point of, like, in NXT, he was one of the announcers, and when everyone else sh*t on us, he would be like, But AJ’s cool.

He was always putting me over. And I think he just knew I loved wrestling, and so when we did the storyline together, I remember he was supposed to say something really mean to me. And it was live, so then he didn’t say the mean thing, and he hit on me or something. He wasn’t supposed to.

And I was like, that was so cool. But he took care of me, and I thought that was really, really nice. And I think we just… I don’t know. I don’t know. It sort of evolved.

I think we were friends first, dating other people. And then once we were both single at the same time. And I think a part of me was like… Who knows? Let’s try this out. Let’s give it a shot. And then I blinked, and we were married in, like, two months or something like that. Wow.
