AEW’s Samoa Joe Ending Career Sooner Than Later

Samoa Joe smirking

Samoa Joe has revealed why he doesn’t want to say the word retirement while admitting the end of his career might be closer than people might hope.

During his career, Samoa Joe has held the TNA, ROH, NXT, and AEW World Championships indicating how successful he’s been everywhere he’s gone. But at 46 years old, there might not be many Joe matches left for fans to get their teeth into.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Samoa Joe was asked if he thinks about how much longer he’ll wrestle and admitted the end is starting to come into sight:

Yeah, I do. A lot. It’s probably coming sooner than later, which is fine. I think a lot of people from my generation, from what I’ve seen, if they have the ability, we’ve done our best to kind of save up and we definitely don’t want to outstay our welcome, because we may have been privy to a few people who may have done that in their careers. So I definitely don’t want to be that guy.

Samoa Joe Still Going For A Little While Longer

Samoa Joe added that he is wary about labelling it a retirement as they never seem to pan out in the wacky world of wrestling:

I think it’s just really based on when my contract runs out [laughs]. I think exploring those options [re-signing] as they go. I hate just saying retirement, because how many pro wrestling retirements never stick? All of them. So, yeah, I mean — I will do this for a little longer and then, yeah, I think the end is probably sooner than any new deal being signed.

Samoa Joe is currently aligned with HOOK and Katsuyori Shibata in The Opps and the former AEW World Champion that they’re bringing their combined arsenal to Dynasty on April 6.

Samoa Joe has admitted he’s still haunted by the career-ending injury of one WWE star and why he didn’t want to use one of his signature moves after it.
