AEW Veteran Returns To Dynamite In Backstage Role
A familiar face was backstage at AEW Dynamite working behind the scenes after a lengthy absence.
Colt Cabana has been a part of All Elite Wrestling for the past three years, but over the last year, his involvement in the company has been sporadic.
It was reported by Fightful Select that Cabana was backstage for All Elite Wrestling Dynamite on the July 5th edition of Dynamite in Edmonton. They reported that Cabana returned as a producer/coach although it’s not known what match or segment Cabana specifically helped with.
Cabana has been mostly absent from the company since the All Out pay-per-view in September 2022 when former two-time AEW World Champion went on an unprovoked rant where he trashed Cabana as well as several others while AEW’s boss Tony Khan was sitting beside Punk.
The relationship between Cabana and Punk is a complicated one because they used to be very close friends that worked together in pro wrestling in Ring of Honor and both of them are from Chicago. However, the friendship deteriorated after a 2014 podcast that led to multiple lawsuits and issues over payments for lawyer fees. For several years now, they have not been friends and don’t communicate with each other at all.
Fans of AEW may remember that Cabana last appeared on AEW TV in November 2022 when he was a surprise challenger for the ROH World Title held by “The Ocho” Chris Jericho. Jericho won the match while Cabana disappeared from television.
Since AEW’s Tony Khan also owns Ring of Honor, Cabana also appeared on ROH shows and worked behind the scenes due to his experience in pro wrestling. Now that AEW Collision has Ring of Honor tapings attached to it, Punk is at those events, so it’s likely that AEW will only use Cabana at Dynamite tapings instead.
As for what’s next, Fightful reports that it’s not known if Cabana will be back temporarily although it seems more likely that he will be around Dynamite more often.
