AEW Urged To Move Ex‑Champion To Non-Wrestling Role After Serious Injury

Adam Cole AEW LOGO BLUR

A former wrestling manager has urged AEW to add an ex-champion to a non-wrestling role.

Adam Cole was scheduled to defend his TNT Championship against Kyle Fletcher at All In: Texas on July 12.

However, hours before the show, it was announced that Cole was not physically fit to wrestle. More so, he was asked to vacate his title.

Following this development, AEW added a four-way match to crown the new TNT Champion, which was ultimately won by Dustin Rhodes.

Before the match, Adam Cole came to the ring and apologized to the audience at Globe Life Field. He also said that he may have already wrestled his last match.

Jim Cornette, who managed various superstars during his heyday, discussed the ex-champion’s emotional segment on his Drive Thru podcast.

Cornette is also credited with having given Cole his early break in wrestling through Ring of Honor.

During the podcast, he suggested alternative roles that AEW could consider for the 36-year-old.

Think about this. Adam Cole, as well spoken as he is… bring him onto the announce team, or Adam Cole… make him a match producer… a guy like Adam Cole is valuable because he’s dedicated, but don’t let him in the f—ing ring for a while. [H/T WrestlingNews]

Jim Cornette Legitimately Worried For AEW’s Adam Cole

Jim Cornette also voiced his frustrations about Adam Cole’s physical condition since his return from a previous injury.

Since he’s been back, he’s getting smaller. He’s getting frailer.

I’m thinking that maybe he’s been doing it when he shouldn’t have been doing it… I’m more worried about him than his bad booking in f—ing AEW… I feel so bad for him.

While Cole’s career primarily highlights his in-ring accomplishments, Cornette may have hit it out of the park with his suggestions.

During his NXT days, Adam Cole was the leader of The Undisputed Era, which could allow him to manage a faction in the Florida promotion.

Cole also possesses good mic skills and could work as a color commentator, and can spend time with the creative team to develop new storylines.

For the moment, both AEW and Cole are focused on his rehabilitation; whether he returns to the ring in any capacity remains to be seen.
