AEW Title On The Line Against NJPW Star At Forbidden Door

Tony Khan AEW

One NJPW star will have the chance to win AEW gold against one of the fastest-rising stars in Tony Khan’s company.

After jumping to the singles ranks, when his tag team partner Mark Davis suffered a major injury in late 2023, Kyle Fletcher’s career has gone from strength to strength in AEW.

The 26-year-old has reinvented himself as part of the Don Callis Family and recently won the TNT Championship in a brutal war with Dustin Rhodes. In the days after the match, Rhodes confirmed that he’ll now undergo double knee replacement surgery. Fletcher continued his good form on the August 9 episode of Collision, where he successfully defended the title against Tomohiro Ishii.

And it seems Kyle Fletcher has more reasons to celebrate after recently signing a new, “big money” contract with AEW. With Forbidden Door just around the corner, Fletcher will be putting his TNT Title on the line in London and now knows exactly who his challenger will be.

On the 13th of August edition of Dynamite, Fletcher teamed with Josh Alexander and The Young Bucks in a huge eight-man tag team match against Hologram, Tomohiro Ishii, Brody King, and NJPW star Hiromu Takahashi. Takahashi picked up the win for his team, and he was then named as Fletcher’s Forbidden Door challenger.

Although Fletcher and Takahashi have shared the ring on five occasions during their careers but Forbidden Door will be the first time they compete against each other in a singles match.

Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Reunite In AEW

Forbidden Door will also see Adam Copeland and Christian Cage compete together for the first time in 14 years. Cage came to Cope’s aid as he was being attacked once again by FTR. Nick Wayne attempted to blindside Cage with a chair but was stopped by the 2×4 covered in nails known as Spike.

Cage and Copeland will team up to face Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian in a tag team match at Forbidden Door.
