AEW will be represented at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom in the Tokyo Dome in 2023 as a pair of former AEW Tag Team Champions will appear on the show.

The working relationship between AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling looks set to continue into the new year with former AEW Tag Team Champions FTR set to appear at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4th.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler are the current AAA, ROH, and IWGP Tag Team Champions and it is that last title that is likely to be on the line at the event with FTR possibly squaring off with the winners of the 2022 World Tag League.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that FTR will appear at Wrestle Kingdom and other AEW stars could also end up on the card:

“FTR is going to be at the Tokyo Dome, I got that confirmed. Originally there were going to be more but I don’t know. A lot of people seem to think the Will Ospreay/Shota Umino match is a setup for Will Ospreay and Moxley.”

“I don’t know that that’s the case, but Shota did do a Death Rider (Moxley’s finisher) on Will Ospreay. And there is unfinished business from Will Ospreay and Moxley from when they were doing that feud earlier this year. So it’s possible.”

“[I] Heard Young Bucks at one point were going, but I don’t know if that’s still the case. So I think that there will be more people, but FTR’s the only one that I know for sure.”

Wrestle Kingdom 2017 will be headlined by Jay White defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against 2022 G1 Climax winner, Kazuchika Okada.
