AEW Streak Ends As Swerve Strickland & Will Ospreay Clash

Swerve Strickland Will Ospreay AEW

One streak in AEW ended at Forbidden Door as Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay went to battle for the AEW World Championship.

Swerve Strickland retained his AEW World Title at Double Or Nothing with a big win over Christian Cage despite interference from The Patriarchy. But as champion a new challenger is never far away and Strickland didn’t have to wait long to find out who he’d be facing at Forbidden Door.

On Dynamite in Los Angeles, a Casino Gauntlet match took place to find the number one contender for the AEW World Title that will face Strickland at Forbidden Door. Stars from CMLL and NJPW entered the match alongside AEW talents but ultimately it was the current AEW International Champion Will Ospreay that picked up the win.

Although Strickland and Ospreay maintained a healthy respect for each other, their needling resulted in Strickland dropping Ospreay with a House Call after the English star took hold of the AEW World Title belt and not for the first time.

Swerve Strickland Retains AEW World Title

At Forbidden Door in New York City, Strickland and Ospreay went to battle in the night’s main event as Will Ospreay looked to emulate Mercedes Mone who left Forbidden Door with two titles of her own.

Strickland and Ospreay went back and forth for almost half an hour before the referee was taken out and the slimy Don Callis tried to get Ospreay to take out both Strickland and Prince Nana with a screwdriver. Ultimately Will Ospreay threw away the weapon and succumbed to a House Call and Big Pressure as Swerve Strickland won and in the process ended the undefeated streak of Will Ospreay in AEW since he officially joined the company.
