AEW Star’s Injury Legitimate As They Miss Forbidden Door

Tony Khan AEW

One AEW star has been replaced in a huge Forbidden Door match, and it seems the injury that caused the change is legitimate.

One of the biggest stories heading into AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door has seen Adam Copeland reunited with Christian Cage.

At All In Texas, Copeland made a surprise return to the AEW after missing several months. At the event, he helped Cage as he looked to get revenge on FTR, who had put him out of action.

Although Cage was initially uncertain and unrepentant for his previous actions, he eventually reunited with his long-time best friend. After Copeland came to the aid of Cage on the August 13 edition of Dynamite, it was announced that the pair will team to face Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian at Forbidden Door.

At Dynamite in Glasgow, Scotland, a video was played to the crowd featuring Nick Wayne, who explained that he’d broken his foot. However, he said that he was still one step ahead, and this brought out Killswitch, who chokeslammed Copeland and Cage.

The returning star will now team with Sabian to face Cage and Copeland at Forbidden Door.

Nick Wayne To Miss Several Weeks From AEW

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez confirmed that Nick Wayne’s broken foot is a real injury and not just part of the storyline to bring back Killswitch:

The Nick Wayne deal, he does have a broken foot, that is legitimate. He shot a promo from Buddy’s ring at his house. I don’t know how long he’s gonna be out of action. He claimed the foot was broken last week in the angle, I don’t know actually when it was broken but I do know it’s a legitimate injury and he’s obviously gonna be out for a while. And that’s why they brought back Killswitch to replace him in the match with Killswitch and Kip Sabian against Christian Cage and Adam Copeland.

Dave Meltzer noted that, based on other injuries of that nature, Wayne could be expected to miss 8-10 weeks from the ring.
