An AEW wrestler is continuing to compete in the ring while dealing with a significant injury.

The final ROH PPV of the year was Final Battle from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The show was headlined by Athena retaining the ROH Women’s World Title over Billie Starkz while Chris Jericho retained the ROH World Title over Matt Cardona.

During the Zero Hour pre-show at Final Battle, there was a match that saw The Grizzled Young Veterans duo of Zack Gibson & James Drake defeat The Dark Order’s John Silver & Alex Reynolds (with Evil Uno) in tag team action.

While that match was going on, the commentary team mentioned that Silver was working through a torn left hamstring because his left leg was taped up. It also played into the story of the match because Drake & Gibson worked over the leg injury during the match.

It’s not known when John Silver suffered the hamstring injury, but his last match before that was a trios match that was taped for AEW Rampage on November 20th.

John Silver debuted in AEW late in the company’s first year in 2019, so while he is not officially an AEW Original, he has spent over five years in the company.

AEW Owner Tony Khan Has A Plan For ROH

The ROH World Champion Chris Jericho recently spoke about how AEW and ROH Owner Tony Khan has a plan for ROH.

“There is a lot going on that is in the works with television and that sort of thing. We’re trying to put as much focus on the Ring of Honor brand as we can. That’s why, as Ring of Honor Champion, I’ve been on Ring of Honor three weeks, it’s the most press and the most focus the Ring of Honor brand has had on Dynamite in months, if not years, probably since the last time I was Ring of Honor Champion.

Tony has a plan for what he wants to do with it and I’m happy to be involved. It’s been great being on Dynamite promoting this match because this is a Ring of Honor show. To be on Dynamite to put a spotlight on our show and then go back to Collision, that’s kind of my role in the company, doing whatever it is Tony wants me to do, to the best of my abilities, and having a great time doing it.”

AEW has one more PPV in 2024 with Worlds End taking place on December 28th in Orlando.
