AEW Star Will Ospreay To Undergo Surgery

Will Ospreay AEW

Will Ospreay’s match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door might be his last for a while.

On the July 23rd edition of Dynamite, Will Ospreay revealed he was suffering from a serious neck injury. Ospreay noted that two herniated discs were pressing on his spinal cord, and he noted the condition was exacerbated by the assault perpetrated on him by the Death Riders at All In Texas.

Worryingly, on July 18, it was reported that Will Ospreay’s injury was “worse than first thought.” In addition, it was noted that he’d been “hurting for a while” and would be meeting with doctors in the United States in the weeks before Forbidden Door.

A further report suggested that when Will Ospreay undergoes surgery, he’ll likely be out for around 14 months. His rumoured surgery and recovery were likened to those faced by Kevin Owens, who has admitted that he may never wrestle again.

Will Ospreay Facing Uncertain Future

Despite the injury, Ospreay is set to compete at Forbidden Door in a huge Unsanctioned Lights Out Cage Match. Ahead of the match on Dynamite in Glasgow, the British star referenced his neck issues and all but confirmed that he’d been told he needs surgery.

However, by mentioning the injury in a promo aimed at rival Jon Moxley, some wondered whether some artistic license had been taken, and it wasn’t as bad as previously claimed. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.

As noted by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Ospreay will undergo surgery “in the near future.”

“For those asking about Will Ospreay’s comments about needing neck surgery on AEW Dynamite, we are told by several sources that it is 100% legitimate and he is absolutely looking at neck surgery in the near future.”

At Forbidden Door, Ospreay will team with Hiroshi Tanahashi, Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, and Kota Ibushi to face the Death Riders, Gabe Kidd, and the Young Bucks.
