An AEW star has disclosed that they will not compete full-time.

Nigel McGuinness spent time away from the squared circle between 2011 and 2024. During this time, he worked at Ring of Honor, World Wrestling Entertainment, and All Elite Wrestling at different stages.

While in ROH, he took on color commentary while also serving as its matchmaker. He was primarily the commentator in WWE between 2016 and 2022, before being released.

He subsequently re-joined ROH as the commentator and later signed with AEW.

McGuinness returned to in-ring action at All In London 2024, competing in a Casino Gauntlet match.

A month later, he fought Bryan Danielson during the September 25 edition of Dynamite.

His last match was at AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door, where he unsuccessfully challenged Zack Sabre Jr. for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Nigel McGuinness Sees No Benefit In Wrestling Full-Time For AEW

During a recent appearance on The Magic of Wrestling, the 49-year-old was asked if he planned on returing to in-ring action full-time. Nigel revealed that he had no such plans, as he does not see any benefit in it.

No. Good Lord, no. No. My full years of wrestling are long, long gone. Good Lord, you could have asked me probably 10 years ago and I would have said the ship has truly sailed when it comes to me even wrestling again. But, I guess, truthfully, without AEW and specifically Tony Khan, I never would have got this opportunity again so, I don’t think there’s any benefit to me wrestling a full-time schedule.

The sort of part-time schedule that I’m currently on, you know, if an opportunity presents itself and it makes sense from a storyline perspective then I’ll do it, I love doing it. But, yeah, not full-time.

There’s too many guys on the roster anyway, younger guys, who deserve more of those spots than me but if I can add a little bit of flavor, a little bit of spice to what else is going on with my experience and the fact that they see me on TV every week as a commentator then I think that’s the best asset, best way they can use me.
