AEW Star Wanted By WWE Removed From Roster Page

AEW Tony Khan

An AEW star appears to be closer than ever to re-joining WWE.

On the January 8 episode of Dynamite, Will Ospreay told Buddy Matthews that it was time to move out of Malakai Black’s shadow and move forward before shaking his hand.

Many fans felt this was a way of signaling that Black won’t return to television, and he could be done with the company. Similar comments from Cope to Brody King only increased the speculation.

Following the episode it was reported that Malakai Black is in fact done with AEW, and may have already left. Not only that, he was heading back to WWE.

The star worked with Triple H extensively during the early part of his WWE career in NXT and has been married to Monday Night Raw star Zelina Vega since November 2018.

A further report noted that Malakai Black had been discussed within WWE creative, and the company expected him to sign.

Malakai Black Removed From AEW Roster

Fast forward to February 10, and Black is no longer listed on AEW’s roster page. On the company website, his profile had appeared between Luther and Mark Briscoe.

According to an update from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Black is now a free agent.

Following the reports of Black’s exit, the House of Black was rebranded as the Hounds of Hell with Brody King and Buddy Matthews regularly teaming together while being backed up by Julia Hart.

It’s been announced that Matthews will challenge Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Champion at Grand Slam Australia.
