AEW Star Taking Time Off Ahead Of “Personality Shift”
A top star in AEW is expected to take a break following Double or Nothing, according to a new report.
The TBS Championship match at AEW Double or Nothing on Sunday night in Las Vegas saw Jade Cargill defend her championship against her toughest opponent to date – Taya Valkyrie.
They would go on to have a competitive match where Taya hit her Road to Valhalla finishing move, but Jade kicked out. Moments later, Jade hit the Jaded slam (the same move that Taya uses) and got the pinfall win.
After the match, Jade’s “lawyer” Smart Mark Sterling complained about a lack of competition, which led to Kris Statlander making her return to AEW after missing over half a year with a knee injury. Statlander beat Jade to put an end to Jade’s undefeated streak and Statlander is the new TBS Champion.
It has been reported by Fightful Select that Statlander beating Cargill to win the TBS was AEW’s plan for at least a few weeks. They also reported that Cargill is expected to take some time off soon (if not immediately) before returning with a “personality shift” in the future.
Whether a “personality shift” specifically means that Cargill will be a babyface after being a heel for a few years is not known, but she does get cheered by the fans.
As for Statlander, she has been traveling with AEW during her recovery and was working out in the ring before Dynamite recently.
There is also believed to be a “major shift” in the women’s division in AEW because of Statlander beating Cargill and Toni Storm beating Jamie Hayter to win the AEW Women’s Title on the same show as well.
