AEW Star Terrified To Follow Jade Cargill

Jade Cargill

An AEW star has admitted that following Jade Cargill is no easy task.

From the moment Jade Cargill walked out on AEW Dynamite for the first time she screamed megastar. After making her in-ring debut next to Shaquille O’Neal and opposite Cody Rhodes, Cargill set about dismantling the women’s division.

This run of dominance saw the star embark on an impressive undefeated streak while becoming the first-ever TBS Champion. However, her time with the gold came to a shuddering halt at Double or Nothing 2023 when she was pinned by a returning Kris Statlander. After the defeat, Cargill took a break from AEW returning to face Statlander in a rematch in September shortly before leaving the promotion altogether.

Speaking to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Statlander reflected on working with Cargill and trying to follow in her footsteps as TBS Champion.

“It was terrifying to try and fill the shoes of such a star, that first night that it happened when I first became the champion. It was so exciting to be back and be part of the roster and an active wrestler again, of course, but there is so much pressure that comes with being a champion, being a worthy champion, and you don’t realize it until you have the belt in your hands.

Once the belt is in your hands, the target is on your back and everyone has a much closer eye on you.

Being her last match, it felt bittersweet because I felt there was so much more I could have done with her. I feel like we really helped each other a lot and I’m just really proud I got to be the last match. I think it was a very fitting send-off.”

Jade Cargill Yet To Wrestle In WWE

On September 26th, WWE announced the signing of Jade Cargill, after the star reported to the Performance Center. The star had allowed her AEW contract to expire, despite Tony Khan making repeated attempts to re-sign her.

While Cargill has made numerous appearances on WWE TV and her signing was greeted with much fanfare she’s yet to wrestle for the company. Responding to a fan on social media, Jade Cargill said she was in no rush to get in the ring when her big check clears every week regardless.

Meanwhile, Kris Statlander will put her TBS Title on the line against Julia Hart and Skye Blue at Full Gear.
