A current AEW star left doctors stunned.

Back in April 2024, Powerhouse Hobbs challenged Jon Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. However, the match ended in disaster as Hobbs suffered a ruptured patella tendon, meaning he required surgery.

Despite the severity of the injury, Powerhouse Hobbs returned to the ring in early November. He went on to join forces with Samoa Joe, Hook, and Katsuyori Shibata as The Opps to battle the Death Riders.

This saw the group win the World Trios Championship in April 2025.

Powerhouse Hobbs Was On A Mission To Make AEW Return

In a newly published interview with Sean Ross Sapp, Hobbs looked back on his injury nightmare, making a stunning revelation in the process. The star revealed that he was expected to be out of action for between eight and 12 months, but he made it back in six.

“That’s me. What you see in the ring every week, that’s me to a large extent. Being down for six months with a ruptured patella, which was supposed to take eight to twelve months to heal. I’m a freak and a different beast. I’m from the Bay. I knew once I came back that I had to amp things up and be different.”

When asked about how doctors’ reactions to his recovery, Hobbs outlined his determination to return as quickly as possible.

“True story, you can ask our doctor, Michael Sampson. When I first went to my second follow-up after surgery, the doctor was like, ’You’re not supposed to be standing or doing any of this. I had a goal set in mind, and I knew I was going to have surgery. I’m a little different. I’ve overcome a lot in my life, and this was nothing different.”

Hobbs was most recently in action on the August 27 edition of Dynamite, where he successfully defended the AEW World Trios Championship alongside Katsuyori Shibata and Samoa Joe.

On the same show, Hobbs’ Opps teammate Hook made a surprise return from injury. The second-generation star had been out of action since suffering a concussion back in April.
