AEW Star Questions Whether WWE Signed Stephanie Vaquer The “Right Way”

Stephanie Vaquer AEW Collision entrance.

Stephanie Vaquer’s jump to WWE has caused a stir.

On July 10th, just hours after it was announced by CMLL that Stephanie Vaquer would be leaving the promotion, Shawn Michaels welcomed the star to WWE on social media. The quick turnaround not only sparked chaos on social media, but multiple promotions were reportedly upset as the star pulled out of several bookings.

Many observers were expecting the Chilian star to sign with AEW off the back of her Forbidden Door match with Mercedes Mone and appearances on AEW television.

Three days after signing, Vaquer made her in-ring debut at a live event in Mexico City, getting the better of Isla Dawn. The star repeated the trick 24 hours later in Monterrey.

Thunder Rosa Questions Stephanie Vaquer Deal

In the days after her signing, it was reported WWE had made Stephanie Vaquer a “tremendous” contract offer to ward off interest from AEW. However, the same report noted the star wasn’t interested in becoming All Elite as she grew up watching WWE.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, AEW star Thunder Rosa gave her thoughts on the situation, questing whether WWE went about the deal in the “right way.”

“At the end of the day, she wanted to go WWE,” Rosa said. “That was her dream and the opportunity was open and she took it, and she’s there. There’s nothing anybody can do about it. Maybe the way that the other company [WWE] went about it in signing her was not the right way, which I think is another criticism that they’re receiving, but at the end of the day, it was her decision to go and sign with this company.”

On July 13th, Willow Nightingale became CMLL Women’s World Champion after beating Lluvia and Viva Van. The title had been vacated by Vaquer.
