AEW Star Open To Reunion After Real Fall Out With Ex-Partner

An AEW star could get the band back together.

After becoming one of the most popular teams in AEW, the relationship between Mike Santana and Ortiz fell apart behind the scenes.

During an absence from television in 2022, it was reported that there were very real issues between the pair. Although they briefly returned to the ring together in May 2023, they later went their separate ways after Santana beat Ortiz that October.

Santana left the company and eventually found his way to TNA, while Ortiz remained with AEW, although he’s only wrestled on TV once since. That match came in January 2024 when he teamed with Eddie Kingston on Collision.

While speaking on the Wombreezy podcast, Ortiz admitted that he’d be open to teaming with Santana again despite their issues. He added that it makes “all the sense in the world” for a reunion to happen down the road.

“There’s a huge part of me that didn’t want the tag team to break up only because I don’t feel we really fleshed out our full potential. There was signs of it, it was there, but really we needed to still evolve as a team, as far as the storytelling aspect of tag team wrestling, when it’s done well, it’s awesome…

I feel we had glimmers of it, but we didn’t get to the top of our game as a tag team. So, if there was an opportunity, depending on the circumstances, I would say I think with time I would definitely be open to it.

I’m a believer too in ‘never say never’ because anything could happen, the stars align in the right way, and it makes all the sense in the world for it to happen.

So yeah there’s definitely a part of me that says yes right away, and there’s a part of me that’s hesitant. But definitely I think so maybe, who knows? Maybe when we’re old and grizzled.”

Ortiz Set To Stay With AEW

Despite those comments, it seems that a reunion won’t be on the horizon any time soon. During the same interview, Ortiz revealed that he has around a year left on his current AEW deal, adding that he’d love to stay with the company for years to come.

Although he hasn’t featured on television, the star has been coaching and producing behind the scenes. Ortiz said that these new roles have given him fresh insight and understanding of the business.

Meanwhile, Santana is currently flying high after beating Trick Williams for the TNA World Championship at Bound For Glory. In addition, back in June it was reported that Mike Santana had impressed WWE bosses during a series of NXT appearances in the summer.
