Top AEW Star Expresses Regret At Missed Opportunity With Bryan Danielson
An AEW star thinks Bryan Danielson is the greatest of all time.
At WrestleDream, Bryan Danielson finally brought the curtain down on his legendary career — or at the very least his run as a full-time wrestler.
After months of teases, Danielson was finally forced to walk away following a defeat to Jon Moxley in which he lost the AEW World Title. To add an exclamation point to the moment, the American Dragon was suffocated with a plastic bag by Wheeler Yuta after the match, ensuring the legend left the arena on a stretcher.
Although he previously said he’d like to wrestle occasionally in the future, it was reported that an MRI scan will determine Bryan Danielson’s future. The scan will highlight just how severe the damage is to Danielson’s neck, and whether he’ll require surgery.
AEW Star Wanted Bryan Danielson Match
During an appearance on the Stick To Wrestling podcast, Adam Cole discussed Danielson’s impact on the wrestling industry and his disappointment at missing out on a match with the star in AEW.
The pair only shared an AEW ring on one occasion, with Cole teaming with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega to defeat Danielson, Christian Cage, and Jurrasic Express in October 2021. Their only singles match came in November 2019 when Cole defended the NXT Title against Danielson on WWE SmackDown.
“Yes, yes (I’m disappointed I didn’t get to wrestle Bryan Danielson in a singles match in AEW).
No doubt and again, I respect Bryan Danielson so much, like everybody does. Bryan is so universally loved, respected and admired. Not just by fans, but literally by every wrestler I’ve ever met.
I mean, Bryan is without question one of the greatest of all-time to ever do this and I look back at the one match we had on SmackDown and I think back so fondly of that night and that moment. That was the first time that we ever stepped into the ring together and it was a dream come true for me.
It was an honor to step into the ring with Bryan Danielson so, I got so excited at the idea because we both debuted the same night here at AEW and I thought, oh my God, we’re gonna get the chance to do it again and at AEW in front of the AEW fans, I can’t wait.
So at least now for the time being, it seems like that probably won’t happen so of course, that’s a bummer for me but Bryan’s health and Bryan’s safety and Bryan’s legacy is the most important thing so I’m glad that Bryan is able to rest and heal and again, Bryan’s one of the greatest to ever do it and selfishly, I do wish I could have stepped into the ring with him again but who knows?
Never say never. Maybe someday, maybe someday.”
Adam Cole made a winning return to action on the October 30th episode of Dynamite where he defeated Buddy Matthews. After the match, Cole was confronted by Malakai Black, and the pair will meet on November 6th.
The match was Cole’s first since All Out 2023 on September 3rd where he teamed with MJF. Just a few weeks later he badly broke his ankle while trying to help his tag team partner retain the AEW World Title.
