AEW Star Hits Back At Retirement Speculation
One AEW star won’t be retiring anytime soon.
Back in January, MVP made his in-ring debut for AEW four months after joining the company. The star joined the rest of The Hurt Syndicate – Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin – in defeating Private Party and Mark Briscoe. Since then, MVP has only wrestled once, at West Coast Pro and BTW’s joint Battle of the Bay event, where he defeated Vinnie Massaro.
Over two decades into his career, it’s no surprise that MVP is getting in the ring less than he used to. However, that doesn’t mean he’s getting ready to hang up his boots.
During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, he responded to a question on retirement to say he wasn’t ready yet.
“No, not yet. I got a little bit left in me. It’s funny. We did a six-man about a month ago now, give or take, and they were teasing me because I was actually in there for a little while, and it felt good. It was coming back to me, and Shelton said, ‘Are you ever gonna tag out?’ I’m like ‘Oh yeah, maybe I should’.”
MVP Previously Admitted AEW Retirement Was Coming “Pretty Soon”
At the end of 2024, MVP dropped a tease about his in-ring retirement. The star said that while he was happy to be paid to be an onscreen manager or mouthpiece, he believed he had “a few matches in him” but was already thinking about his retirement match.
