AEW Star Gives Thanks To Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
An AEW star is delighted to see Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn succeed.
Even before they found their way to WWE, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens had made a huge impression on the wrestling industry.
During their time on the independent circuit, the pair were known for always doing business ‘the right way,’ while trying to elevate those around them. A contract to the often selfish depiction of pro wrestlers.
In a new interview on the Johnny I Pro Show, fellow Quebec native Evil Uno said he was one of those who owed a great deal to Owens and Zayn. He explained that he likely wouldn’t be in AEW without them, but wrestling them came with a special kind of pressure.
“Oh, incredible. And truthfully, a lot of the success I have in my life is due to them. Very early into my career, Kevin Owens kind of took me under his wing and essentially let me travel parts of the world with him as a secondary, and I learned a lot from him. I got to wrestle him a ton, and in a lot of ways, he’s been extremely helpful to anything I’ve done to this point.
I don’t think I’d be in AEW if it wasn’t for him. I don’t think I would have been in Ring of Honor — I absolutely wouldn’t have not been in Ring of Honor if it wasn’t for them; PWG as well. But, even though we had been friends, even though they were mentors to me, they were by far the best Canadian wrestlers at the time, and it was extremely stressful to wrestle them because you knew they couldn’t have a bad match.
You did not want to be the people that have the bad match with them. But, I’ve had incredible matches with both of them. I think the world of them, and I’m very, very happy for their success.”
Sami Zayn Attacked On SmackDown
On the October 10 episode of SmackDown in Perth, Australia, Sami Zayn held another United States Championship Open Challenge. This saw Shinsuke Nakamura make his comeback, but the match ended in a No Contest after interference from the returning Tama Tonga and the rest of Solo Sikoa’s MFT.
Meanwhile, Kevin Owens remains out of action after undergoing neck surgery. Owens had been due to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania, but the match was dropped after the true extent of his injuries became clear.
The former World Champion has repeatedly stated that while he’d love nothing more, there’s no guarantee he’d wrestle again.
