AEW Star Finally Addresses Future After 21-Month Absence

Tony Khan AEW

A long-time absent AEW star still hopes to return to the company.

In the weeks and months after Blood & Guts 2022, it was reported that there’d been a serious falling out between Santana and Ortiz.

Although they later returned to television together in May of the following year, they later went their separate ways. This saw Santana leave the company after beating Ortiz in a grudge match, and Ortiz lost his way.

Following that match, Ortiz has wrestled just once on AEW television, and that outing came all of the way back in January 2024.

While speaking on the Wombreezy podcast, Ortiz said that he expects to eventually return to AEW television, but a comeback is out of his control.

“I think eventually I’ll be back on AEW television. That’s out of my control at the moment. I’m still able to stay fresh and do independents. Keep doing as many independents as possible.

Go over to England, Mexico, Canada, and maybe go to Japan and do it for a week if I can work that out. Just become a better wrestler and performer, and get back on television. Put into action all the work I’ve been doing and change people’s perceptions.”

Ortiz Still Under AEW Contract

Elsewhere, Ortiz said that his current AEW contract has around a year to run, and despite his lengthy absence from television, he has no desire to go anywhere else.

While discussing his status with the company, the star revealed that he’s been working as a coach and producer since his in-ring action. He added that while he would love to keep wrestling, he’d be content to stay with AEW working behind the scenes.

Ortiz also admitted that he’d be open to reuniting with estranged tag team partner Mike Santana. The former tag team star is the current TNA World Champion.
