AEW Star Eyeing Up WWE Return

Malakai Black Andrade El Idolo AEW

AEW star Andrade El Idolo has courted controversy during his time in the company and the star could have his sights set on a return to WWE.

In October 2022 Andrade El Idolo was sent home by AEW after a physical altercation with Sammy Guevara at one of its shows. That came just a few weeks after CM Punk’s infamous fight with The Elite which ultimately snowballed into Punk being fired from the company one year later.

Many believed at the time that Andrade El Idolo was trying to get himself fired from AEW amid suggestions that he wanted to rejoin WWE, and now it seems like that could be closer to happening than ever.

Andrade El Idolo’s Time In AEW Could Be Nearly Over

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Andrade El Idolo is heading back to CMLL and that could be because he’s eyeing up a return to WWE when his AEW deal is up, which could be sooner rather than later:

He’s going back to CMLL, not sure exactly what week but probably relatively soon. On Friday night’s Arena Mexico show they did a tease of him going back. He had talked to AAA about going back there and decided to go to CMLL.

I think he just wanted to do it because that’s where he started. Because there’s no real money, even though CMLL’s drawing big crowds, there’s no real money being paid by CMLL. And Andrade actually charges a lot for his appearances in Mexico, so I think it’s just something that he wants to do.

And his deal is coming up relatively soon unless it’s extended or something because of time off for injuries or whatever, but he thinks that his deal’s up pretty soon. So he wanted to go back (to CMLL) in case he ends up going to WWE.

He’s not made a decision on what he’s doing next, he’s not signed a new deal. But if he does go to WWE, he knows he can’t go back to Arena Mexico. (His AEW deal is up) he believes relatively soon. My impression is that it’s up relatively soon.

Andrade El Idolo is currently part of the Continental Classic as part of the Blue League. El Idolo squared off with Bryan Danielson on the taped edition of Collision that will air on December 9th.
