AEW Star Explains Change To Their Ring Name

AEW

An AEW star has explained what lay behind their decision to change their ring name after three years in the company.

Jungle Boy was one of the original stars of AEW appearing on the company’s first pay-per-view, Double Or Nothing in 2019, as part of the Casino Battle Royal won by Hangman Adam Page.

For the majority of his time in AEW Jungle Boy was part of Jurassic Express with Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt, with Stunt leaving latterly and Christian Cage aligning himself with the team. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus captured the AEW Tag Team Championship in January 2022 but when the team lost the title to The Young Bucks, things collapsed for the team.

Christian Cage attacked Jungle Boy following that bout leading to a major split. Luchasaurus appeared to side with Jungle Boy in the feud but showed his true colours as Cage’s ‘right hand of destruction,’ attacking Jungle Boy before his scheduled bout with Cage at All Out.

With Christian Cage making things personal in his feud, discussing Jungle Boy’s late father, the actor Luke Perry, Jungle Boy has started to use his real name of Jack Perry in the company.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Perry explained his decision and says he wanted fans to focus on his in-ring work and not his famous relations but Christian Cage’s comments changed all that:

“I initially went with the whole Jungle Boy thing as a way to not be myself or more what I guess people thought I was. It was my way of really getting people to just watch my wrestling, which was really important to me. I wanted people to just watch me do what I did in the ring.”

“I didn’t want to have to talk or have a character that other people were trying to push on me. It was like, I’m Jungle Boy. I don’t talk, I don’t do anything. You just got to watch what’s in the ring. A lot of that was to avoid my personal life in a way.”

“Christian goes and just blows all that out of the water and is going nuts every week, saying all this stuff. At that point, it’s kind of like, what am I waiting for now? This seems like the time to go for it.”

Jack Perry will have his chance to exact some retribution on his former tag team partner Luchasaurus when the two men meet in a Steel Cage match at Full Gear.
