AEW Star Defends Tony Khan Following Recent Criticism
One AEW star is loving working for Tony Khan.
Tony Khan has been a divisive figure among some sections of wrestling fandom for a number of years, but that went into overdrive following the April 10th episode of AEW Dynamite.
On the show, Khan took the decision to air footage of the backstage alternation between CM Punk and Jack Perry at All In. On the show, the footage was used to add more spice to the story between FTR and The Young Bucks, but the main motivator was reportedly Khan’s annoyance at recent comments made by Punk.
During an interview with Sportskeeda, Ricky Starks came to Khan’s defence, describing his boss as a “very sweet man.”
“Four years now [been in AEW]. He’s a great dude. He really is. I’ve never met someone as nice as he is. People always assume someone in that position, someone in that tax bracket is going to be a certain way and he isn’t like that. He is a very, very sweet man. I think people need to realize that we are a startup company. We are all just trying to figure this out.”
When asked what he would say to the internet trolls, Starks said he wouldn’t even engage.
“Well, I don’t think you can say anything to internet trolls because even if you present them with facts and evidence, they still believe what they want to believe. So I think it’s best to just keep the energy to ourselves, right?
Because here’s the thing. They will never experience what we experience, in that the beauty and joy of someone like Tony when you come to the back after your match. It’s a different feeling to experience that with your boss. It could be a hug; it could be a fist bump. It could be anything.”
Eric Bischoff Blasts Tony Khan
While Ricky Starks is full of praise for Khan, one WWE Hall of Famer has a very different view. On a recent episode of his Wise Choices series, Eric Bischoff claimed AEW has “no hope” of improvement under Tony Khan.
Bischoff added that Khan needs to have a look at himself and question whether he’s making the right decisions.
