AEW Star Dealing With Concussion Issues
An absent AEW star is dealing with a concussion.
HOOK made a brief return to AEW television at Double or Nothing as he made a cameo to help take out The Death Riders.
The appearance was his first for several weeks after he had disappeared without explanation. The star’s most recent match came on the April 9 episode of Dynamite, where he teamed with Opps leader Samoa Joe to defeat Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.
After the match, a wild brawl ensued, and in the midst of the chaos, fans noticed that HOOK was vomiting during the segment. This sparked fears that he’d suffered a concussion or some kind of head injury, and it seems those fears were well-founded.
During an interview on Wrestling Observer Live, HOOK confirmed that he’s recovering from a concussion.
“Yeah, yeah (I’ll be back in AEW soon). I’m recovering from a concussion for those who don’t know but yeah, I’ve been out for a while and I should be back soon, for sure.”
HOOK Explains AEW Character
The second-generation star was also asked about his wrestling persona, and he admitted that what fans see on television is pretty much him in real life.
“Yeah, I think so. I think the character’s just an extension or a piece of the person I really am, so, yeah, I’d say that’s accurate.”
While reflecting on his road to AEW, HOOK admitted his dad used to tell him to be anything except a professional wrestler. However, that did little to dampen his enthusiasm for his dad’s career and the industry as a whole.
He added that as he got older, he decided he would use that interest and his athleticism to enter the family business.
“You know, it’s pretty funny. When I was a kid, my dad told me to be anything but a pro wrestler when I grew up. So, it wasn’t necessarily the plan from younger at all. However, I was an only child and super close to my father forever so I always took a deep interest in wrestling just because it was what my father did and I would come up with my own ideas of what I thought I would do if I was a wrestler and stuff but…
Once I got older and I wanted to use my athleticism and creativity to make an income for myself and I started to take more serious — the idea of — aye, maybe I could really do something with professional wrestling, and I developed a more hardcore vision and started training…”
There’s no word on when HOOK will return to television.
