AEW Star Cope Finds Positives In Injury Struggles

Cope entrance on AEW Dynamite

Cope sees injuries as just another mountain to climb.

At Double or Nothing 2024, Cope suffered a broken leg while jumping from the top of a steel cage to Malakai Black. Despite the injury, the star finished the match, although he quickly underwent surgery.

As expected, the injury kept him out for several months but he was back in the ring on January 1, after returning to television a week earlier.

In a new interview with Wrestle Radio Australia, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked whether it’s harder to overcome injuries now he’s in his 50s, compared to earlier in his career.

“Not really. No. I look at injuries as challenges. You know, I don’t… I try to reframe them as opposed to like, this kind of demoralizing thing. It’s like, right, okay. One more to come back from. One more to prove I can work through these things. You know, I take some pride in that. I don’t want to get injured, but it’s part of what we do. Find me a wrestler who’s never been injured. It’s impossible. It’s part of it.”

Cope Set For AEW World Title Clash

On February 12, Jon Moxley finally accepted a World Title challenge from Cope for a match at Revolution. The veteran had actually laid down his challenge to Moxley earlier but the World Champion turned him down.

However, on Dynamite, Cope and Jay White stole the briefcase holding the World Championship belt. Once in the ring with the stolen loot, the former WWE star threatened to smash it to pieces with his bat “Spike” if Moxley didn’t give him what he wanted.

But before he gets to Revolution, Cope will team with Jay White to face Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli in a Brisbane Brawl at Grand Slam Australia on February 15.
