Major AEW Star Confirms They’ll Miss Forbidden Door
An injured AEW star remains on the sidelines.
In recent days, Eddie Kingston has vowed to return to the ring despite being hit by major bouts of self-doubt during his current absence.
Kingston has been out of action since suffering a broken leg and torn ACL, and meniscus during a match with Gabe Kidd back in May 2024. During the bout, Kingston took a suplex from the apron through a table at ringside; however, his leg smashed into the steel guardrail in the process.
Although he’s resumed in-ring training with former WWE Superstar Cezar Bononi, it seems a comeback is still a little way off.
Eddie Kingston To Miss AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door
During a recent episode of Bononi’s podcast, Kingston discussed his recovery and admitted that he’s particularly disappointed to be missing Forbidden Door for a second year in a row. Kingston has been open about his reverence for Japanese wrestling, and he laid out the list of wrestlers he wished he could have faced.
“I am disappointed that it looks like, I’m just saying it now, it looks like I’m not going to be able to do Forbidden Door again.
Everybody else has their favorites, you know what I mean? And my favorite was always Forbidden Door.
The Japanese dudes are my dudes. I wanted to fight Shingo (Takagi) or Yuya (Uemura), which is one of the young lions they got there that’s coming up in the game.
I would love to fight Shota (Umino). There’s so many. Taichi. I would love to fight Taichi because he was trained by Kawada. Everyone knows my history with Toshiaki Kawada-san.
Hopefully, this comes out and I’m wrong and I’m actually at Forbidden Door fighting somebody.”
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is set to take place on August 24 at the 02 Arena in London, England. Despite dealing with a serious neck injury, Will Ospreay has vowed to wrestle at the event.
