Top AEW Star Compares Steve Austin To Keanu Reeves
A former AEW World Champion has reflected on meeting Steve Austin.
Although they arguably couldn’t be more different when it comes to in-ring style, Kenny Omega and Steve Austin have never hidden their admiration for each other.
Austin, in particular, has been incredibly vocal for years about how highly he rates Omega, and there’s been speculation that in the past, he’s urged WWE to sign the star. As far back as 2017, Stone Cold was publicly declaring his admiration for Omega, praising his dynamic promos and skills as a “hellacious performer.”
Kenny Omega Full Of Praise For Steve Austin
On a new podcast, Kenny Omega teamed with Adi Shankar to pick apart “Devil May Cry” on Netflix, however, there was still plenty of chatter about wrestling and his own career. During the interview, Omega recalled meeting Austin, praising him for being so down to earth.
“Yeah, I love Stone Cold but when I was actually able to meet him and hang out with him and stuff, I remember it was such a fun time to meet someone that’s so down to earth.
Even though he had done so much in his career and I had only kind of just began my journey in Japan, here we were, sitting in a private room signing pieces of merchandise and we’re just shooting the sh*t like normal people would, exchanging stories.
I’m telling stories from Japan, he’s telling stories from what happened here in WWF/E. Talking like two human beings and it was great. The only other thing that was comparable to that was meeting Keanu Reeves.”
During the same conversation, Kenny Omega admitted he’s been far more cautious since returning to the ring after being diagnosed with diverticulitis. The star went on to praise his agent, Barry Bloom, who he said had become like a member of his family.
Omega was most recently in action on the April 30 edition of Dynamite, where he teamed with Mark Briscoe, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Mark Briscoe, and Kevin Knight in defeat to The Young Bucks, Ricochet, and Kazuchika Okada.
