AEW Star Claims CM Punk Was A “Mentor Through Hate”

CM Punk

CM Punk was a mentor to one top AEW star.

Although his AEW run was marred by injury, controversy, and chaos, CM Punk’s rivalry with MJF is still remembered fondly by fans.

The blood-soaked feud saw Punk roll back the years, and MJF rise to new heights as they looked to establish themselves as the company’s top star. In the process, MJF handed Punk his first AEW defeat, but Punk later got the better of his rival in a classic Dog Collar Match.

During a new interview with Casual Conversations, MJF discussed his feelings on his former rival.

“Yeah, I think I would use the word mentor through hate. I was mentored by probably two of the most intelligent guys in the business. One was through love, and one was through hate.”

After admitting he wants a rematch with Kenny Omega, MJF praised Bryan Danielson as a “genius.”

“Oh my God, genius, wrestling genius. Enough to beat me, though, but a wrestling genius.”

CM Punk Close To In-Ring Return

Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that CM Punk will return to the ring at SummerSlam for a highly-anticipated clash with Drew McIntyre. Punk has been out of action since the Royal Rumble in January after suffering an injury at the hands of the Scottish star.

Since then the duo have been doing their best to make each other miserable, with Punk costing McIntyre the World Heavyweight Title on two occasions.

To add further intrigue to the match, Seth Rollins will feature as the special guest referee after being collateral damage as Punk cost McIntyre at Money In The Bank.
