AEW Star Recalls Bryan Danielson Storyline Plans Changing
A rising AEW star has recalled the original plans he had with Bryan Danielson that didn’t materialize due to other factors.
The Blackpool Combat Club consists of former three-time AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta. While it doesn’t appear as though they will add anybody else to the group, there is a younger wrestler in AEW that looked like a possible candidate to join in the past: Daniel Garcia.
In the summer of 2022, Garcia had a rivalry with his wrestling idol Bryan Danielson. They had a few great matches together, but Garcia ended up staying with Chris Jericho’s Jerico Appreciation Society (JAS) group instead of being a BCC guy.
While speaking on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Daniel Garcia spoke about nearly being in the BCC with Danielson while adding that he was “very sad” about it.
“I’m not big on regrets. I don’t like to look backwards and think about what could have been or what was, but you know, at the moment, I was very, very, very, very sad about the situation.”
“You know, Jericho has told the story so many times that, you know, I was originally supposed to be put with Bryan in the original Blackpool Combat Club right when it first was initiated. Jericho needed me for his group so I got taken out of that and put with Jericho.”
“When he told me the news that I was going to be in JAS, I was just like, because in my mind, I’m like, ‘damn, I know I was supposed to be with Bryan in a couple of weeks.’ Like, this is sad, you know? So then once I started like, ‘okay, like this Bryan thing could be happening in the bigger way where I already got over a little bit and now it could be like a big payoff of a big storyline that I’m gonna be with Bryan.’ I’m like, ‘this is really cool.'”
“But you know, I don’t know if I was ready at that point to be put with Bryan to be a babyface.”
Bryan Danielson came up short in a TNT Title match against Christian Cage
During his wrestling career, Bryan Danielson was a former World Champion in WWE using the Dania Bryan name. Over the last two years, Danielson has challenged for multiple titles in AEW, but he’s yet to win any.
On the October 14 episode of AEW Collison, Danielson challenged Christian Cage for the TNT Championship. As usual for a Christian match, there was some controversy toward the finish where Big Bill & Ricky Starks got involved with Starks hitting Bryan with the TNT Title. Christian capitalized on that for the pinfall win.
